Presently, and now for the last 3 years, I have been a dedicated practitioner of Calisthenics. Calisthenics is a form of exercise consisting of a variety of movements which exercise large muscle groups (gross motor movements), such as running, standing, grasping, pushing, etc. These exercises are often performed rhythmically and with minimal
equipment, as body-weight exercises.
My name is Dmitriy Semenov and I am a Mind-Body Lifestyles coach at Ultimate Calisthenics.
I am a former professional and national world juniors hockey player; an amateur-level athlete in boxing, muay thai, volleyball, and soccer, as well as placed 3rd in Canada in partner-stunt acrobatics.
Presently, and now for the last 3 years, I have been a dedicated practitioner of Calisthenics. Calisthenics is a form of exercise consisting of a variety of movements which exercise large muscle groups (gross motor movements), such as running, standing, grasping, pushing, etc. These exercises are often performed rhythmically and with minimal
equipment, as bodyweight exercises.
Throughout my athletic career, I have also thrived and conquered numerous very serious injuries to my knees, elbow, wrists, and a serious debilitating back condition.
My educational background is in health, fitness, and sports psychology at York University's Faculty of Health.
I choose to run group classes and personal training at Ultimate Calisthenics because this brand new, state of the art facility is fully equipped for weight, strength, and cardio training, as well as, MOST IMPORTANTLY, set up for body-weight exercises, or as now known to us as Calisthenic Movements or just Calisthenics.
Body weight exercises are essential as they increase blood flow throughout the body, improve body mobility and muscle flexibility-getting you ready for whichever jobs that you may do or whatever daily routines that you have.
This ultimately is the key to mental as well as physical health which are necessarily interconnected. Body weight exercises, when performed properly with full range of motion, will enable you to perform great as well as feel great. This is how our bodies were meant to move throughout the evolutionary history over millions of years.
Only once we reconnect with our bodies through natural body movements that we may then add weights for strength training, and high intensity interval training and cardio exercises.
The fitness industry very often will tell you otherwise: do weights and cardio and "eat healthy"- as if these concepts are self-explanatory.
Being a Mind-Body Lifestyles Coach at Ultimate Calisthenics, I aim to educate and inform you so that you gain an understanding of the big picture of health.
We will take you from zero to hero and establish a concrete and individualized fitness and nutrition program for your personal mind, body, and lifestyle.
I will personally assess your habits, your daily routines, movements required by your job or absence of movement which is very often the case, your eating and sleep patterns, as well as mental stressors in your lives. Only then an effective program can be developed for you and you will truly be on your way to optimizing your mind, your body, and ultimately your lifestyle. No matter whether you are a man or a woman, competitive athlete or not at all, no matter your age, the approach is always the same:
